Here are the results for the Fremont tennis players who participated in the 2008 Cornhusker State Games the past two weekends. Third sets were played as match tie breakers (10 point). Consolation matches were played as an eight game pro set.
Spencer Brown of Fremont played in the Boys’ 18 Singles. He had a BYE in the 1st round, then defeated Matthew Saffee of Lincoln in the 2nd round 3-6, 6-2, 10-4. He was then defeated in the Quarterfinals 0-6, 2-6 by Eric McKnight of Omaha, the # 2 seed and eventual champion. Good job Spencer!
Erica Dickmeyer and Tyler Ketchem of Fremont played in the Mixed 8.0 Doubles. They were defeated in the 1st round 2-6, 1-6 by Heather Blumel and Michael Hess of Omaha. Blumel and Hess were the eventual champions, so Erica and Tyler had a tough draw. They made it into the 2nd round of the consolation bracket where they lost to Jay Barbuto and Michelle Lisec-Talarico of Lincoln, the eventual consolation champions.
Brian Mark and Dana Mark of Fremont played in the 3.5 singles event. Brian lost his 1st round match 3-6, 1-6, to Todd Tabor of Walton who ended up being a finalist. Tough draw, Brian. James Stone of Omaha defeated Todd for the championship.
Brian then played a consolation match against Joseph Mara losing 4-8. Joseph was then defeated by Matthew Binderup of Omaha. Binderup was the eventual champion in the consolation round.
Dana won his first round match against Skip Rice of Omaha 7-6(8), 6-7(5), 10-4. Yes, that’s three tie breakers! Dana then beat the 5th seed, Todd Hultman of Omaha 4-6, 6-2, 10-3. He then lost in the Quarterfinals to Michael Salas of Lincoln, 1-6, 1-6.
Brian and Dana Mark also played in the 3.5 doubles event. Again, a tough draw for Fremont players. Brian and Dana lost the 1st round match 1-6, 4-6 to 2nd seed Bob Branchaud and Richard Robison of Lincoln who ended up being the consolation champions. The champions in the main draw were the # 1 seeds, Brad Miller and Raymond Montejano of Omaha.
In the consolation match, Brian and Dana lost to Donald Ediger and John Keller who ended up being finalists in the consolation draw. They were defeated by Bob Branchaud and Richard Robison of Lincoln in the consolation championship match.
Mike Willman of Fremont teamed up with Roland Augspurger of Columbus in the 4.0 doubles. They were the # 2 seed in their draw. They had a BYE in the 1st round, then defeated Stephan Andersen of Lincoln and Doug Tegler of Eagle in the 2nd round 6-0, 6-0. No mercy! Mike and Roland then lost 5-7, 2-6 in the Semifinals to the # 3 seeded team of Ryan Elwood and Maurice Higgins of Lincoln. Elwood and Higgins were the eventual champions.
Thanks to all our Fremont players. You played hard. You showed the rest of Nebraska that the Fremont Tennis Association has a good tennis program. Thanks for playing!
