Fremont Tennis Association

The 4.5 Men’s Singles event at the 2008 Centre Court KFC/Jones Soda/24c Nebraska Closed Tennis Tournament played in Fremont, NE July 11-13 was played as a round robin with three players.

Round 1, Joseph Murray defeated Maurice Higgins 6-4, 6-4.

Round 2 – Maurice Higgins defeated Jonathan Schleicher 6-1, 7-5.

Round 3 – Joseph Murray defeated Jonathan Schleicher 7-5, 6-2.

There were no Fremont players in the Men’s 4.5 Singles division.

The winner in the 4.0 Men’s Singles division of the 2008 Centre Court KFC/Jones Soda/24c Nebraska Closed Tennis Tournament played in Fremont, NE July 11-13 was 4th seed Keith Nielsen of Omaha, who defeated Paul Barnes of Lincoln in the final, 6-0, 6-0.

Mark Leahy, the only player from Fremont in the men’s singles 4.0 division, made it to the semifinals before losing to runner up Paul Barnes 6-7(5), 6-4. Mark Leahy then went on to defeat Colby Hoshor of Lincoln, 1-6, 6-1, 1-0(6) for the 3rd place title. Congratulations Mark!

The consolation bracket was won by Larry McFadden of Omaha, with a win over 3rd seed Greg Hepfner of Omaha, 6-4, 7-6(5).

The champions of the Men’s 3.5 Doubles event at the 2008 Centre Court KFC/Jones Soda/24c Nebraska Closed Tennis Tournament played in Fremont, NE July 11-13 were the # 2 seeds, Brad Miller and Raymond Montejano who defeated the # 1 seeds Dave Blumel and Shah Zeb in the finals, 6-4, 6-1.

Fremont Player Results:

Burdell Harnisch of Fremont and John Kellogg of Omaha had a bye, then lost to the eventual champions Brad Miller and Raymond Montejano 1-6, 2-6.

Brian Mark and Dana Mark defeated Shawn Murray and Ryan Wills, 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round. They lost in the 2nd round to Tom Andrews and Dave Walde 2-6, 0-6.

The champion in the Men’s 3.5 Singles division at the 2008 Centre Court KFC/Jones Soda/24c Nebraska Closed Tennis Tournament played in Fremont, NE July 11-13 was the # 1 seed, Brad Miller who defeated Mark Jackson 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-4 in the finals.

Fremont player results:
Dana Mark lost in the semifinals to the eventual champion, Brad Miller, 1-6, 2-6. Dana then defeated the 2nd seed, Michael Pivovar 3-6, 7-6(3), 1-0(4) for 3rd place.

Brian Mark lost to Jeff Holland 5-7, 2-6 in the opening round. He then lost a close match to Jonathan Rohloff also of Fremont, 3-6, 7-6(5), 0-1(2).

Jonathan Rohloff the lost in the Consolation semifinal to Jerry Pivovar 6-0, 4-6, 0-1(5).

The Men’s 55 Doubles event at the 2008 Centre Court KFC/Jones Soda/24c Nebraska Closed Tennis Tournament played in Fremont, NE July 11-13, had three entries and was played as a round robin.

Round 1 – Fremonters, Doug Hartman and Chris Westergaard defeated Roger Bailey and William Woito, 6-0, 6-2.

Round 2 – Doug Hartman and Chris Westergaard defeated Roderick Harley and Jim Johnson of Fremont, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.

Round 3 – Roderick Harley and Jim Johnson defeated Roger Bailey and William Woito, 6-2, 6-4.
