Grand Island Defeats Fremont Girls Tennis Team
The Fremont High girls tennis team lost 7-2 to Heartland Athletic Conference rival Grand Island Friday, March 26 at the FHS tennis complex.
Coach Heidi Moran had stated that this match would set the climate for th team. However, the Tigers were playing without senior Jessye Johnson who is 3rd on the ladder, which kept the Tigers from competing as strong as they had hoped.
Winning for the Tigers were Megan Robertson in singles, who also teamed up with Jessica Spalding to win in doubles.
The Junior Varsity also posted four wins, which shows some of the strength coming up in the future for the Fremont Girls.
In varsity singles play:
- No. 1 – Jessica Spalding, 9-8 (7-0) loss to Jenna Helleberg
- No. 2 – Megan Robertson, 8-4 loss to Bailey Patsios
- No. 3 – Sydney Robertson, 8-1 loss to Riley Menagh
- No. 4 – Erin Eairleywine, 8-3 loss to Courtney Cahoy
- No. 5 – Catherine Booth, 8-4 loss to Kaitlin Frankforter
- No. 6 – Lindsey Strong, 8-4 loss to Anna Scarbourough
In varsity doubles play:
- No. 1 – Spalding/M. Robertson, 8-2 win over Patsios/Menagh
- No. 2 – S. Robertson/Carly Gross, 8-5 loss to Frankforter/Scarbourough
- No. 3 – Eairleywine/Booth, 8-0 loss to Helleberg/Richardson
In Junior varsity singles play:
- No. 1 – Carly Gross, 8-2 loss to Tori Katzberg
- No. 2 – Gabby George, 8-4 win over Megan Richardson
- No. 3 – Bailey Stewart, 8-4 loss to Taylor Kinne
- No. 4 – Bayley Becher, 8-4 win over Jenna McCray
- No. 5 – Morgan Beighley, 8-3 win over Shawntel Upton
In Junior varsity doubles play:
- No. 1 – Stewart/Becher, 9-7 loss to Kataberg/Kinne
- No. 2 – Strong/Beighley, 8-4 win over McCray/Upton
