There were 14 entries in the 11 & older division. They played a round robin non-elimination format.

There were nine who played in the 9 & under division. They played a round robin non-elimination QuickStart format.

It looks like they were having a great time. Thanks to all who participated and all who helped run it.

Brian and Dana played in the Men’s 3.5 doubles. In the final, they defeated Stephen Cross and Murali Vegi of Lincoln 7-6 (4), 6-3 to bring home a Gold medal.

Jessica Spalding and Erica Dickmeyer teamed up as the No. 2 seeds in the Women’s Open Doubles. They were defeated by the No. 1 seeded team of Frauke Hachtmann and Michelle Liseo-Talarico of Lincoln 6-2, 6-3 in the final to bring home a silver medal.

Jessica Spalding was also the 2nd seed in the Women’s Open Singles. She lost her first round, then won the final in the consolation bracket against Lee Cooney of Omaha 3-6, 6-0, 1 (10-7) for the Bronze medal.

Jon Rohloff and Josh Sammons also played in the 3.5 doubles. They lost a very close match in the 1st round to Gary and Kevin Rademacher of Nebraska City, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6(10-8).

Jon Roloff, Brian Mark and Dana Mark also played Men’s 3.5 singles. Jon won his first round match 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) over Tim Dunning of Omaha, then lost to the No. 1 seed, Barry Bucknell of Lincoln 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (11-9).

Brian lost his first round match to Craig Palik of Lincoln 6-3, 6-3. Dana won the first round against Nolan Dewispelare of Lincoln 6-2, 6-3, and won the 2nd round 6-1, 6-3 over the No. 3 seed, Viji Pushkaran of Lincoln. He then lost in the semifinals 6-4, 7-5 to Craig Palik, the eventual champion.

Brian and Dana also played the Men’s 4.0 doubles, losing in the first round to Mark Jackson and Joseph Lopez-Wilson of Omaha 6-2, 7-5.

Renate Mark played in the Women’s 4.0 singles. She lost her first round to Stephanie Larson of Lincoln 7-6, 6-2, and lost her first consolation match 6-1, 6-0 to Kimberly Gradoville of Omaha.

Congratulations to the medal winners for bringing home a Gold, a Silver, and a Bronze medal for Fremont, and thanks to all Fremont participants for playing. It was great to have a good Fremont showing. See you at the Fremont Open.

Tory Escamilla and Brady Zoucha teamed up to win the championship in the boys 18 doubles. In round-robin play, they defeated an Omaha team made of up Michael Sauter and Mark Vogel 7-6(3), 6-4 and Joseph Wier and Philip Wier of Bellevue, 6-4, 6-4. Congratulations Tory and Brady!

Tory Escamilla also played in the boys 18 singles, winning over Mark Vogel of Omaha 6-2, 6-2, and the No. 1 seed, Joseph Wier of Bellevue, 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals. In the final, he lost to Tyler Johnson of Elkhorn, 6-3, 6-0 for the runner-up honors.

Brady Zoucha also played in the boys 18 singles bracket. He lost to Dylan Ramey of Lincoln in the quarterfinals, and to Patrick Dewald of Omaha, 6-3, 6-1 in the consolation quarterfinals.

Jessica Spalding participated in the girls 18 singles which was held as a round-robin. She defeated Jennifer Gokie of Columbus 6-2, 6-3 in one round, and was defeated 6-2, 6-4 in another round by Alexis Kaiser of Omaha, giving her 2nd place.

Weston and Wyatt Spalding teamed up for the boys 16 doubles event. They were defeated by the No. 1 seeded team, Trent Gardner and Vince Van Dyke of Omaha, 6-0, 6-0.

Justin Mora played in the Boys’ 16 Singles, falling to Jack Rodenburg of Lincoln, 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 32, then losing to Peter DeWald of Omaha, 6-0, 6-1 in the consolation bracket.

Luke Prescott teamed up with Nicholas Tran of Omaha in the Boys’ 14 Doubles. They lost to Preston Brown and Peter Furlow of Omaha, 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Logan Baumberger played in the Boys’ 12 Singles, losing to the No. 1 seed, Haydn Muir of Elkhorn, 6-0, 6-1 in the Round of 16, then to Mithil Shah of Omaha, 6-0, 6-0 in the Consolation bracket.

For Fremont, Jessica Spalding won over Hannah Higgins 8-3 at No. 1 singles. Jessye Johnson defeated Lindsey Keller 8-6 at No. 3 singles, and Sydney Robertson had a shutout, 8-0 over Merdith Cain at No. 4, while Amy Ahrens had an easy win over Jessica Fasnacht, 8-1.

In doubles play, Megan Robertson and Jessye Johnson defeated Rosie Neibel and Lindsey Keller 8-1 at No. 1, Sydney Robertson and Carly Gross beat Merdith Cain and Sandra Koenig 8-3 at No. 2, and Amy Ahrens and Lindsey Strong were 8-5 winners over Hannah Higgins and Jessica Fasnacht at No. 3.

The Fremont Tigers next play in the Heartland Athletic Conference meet at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln.

The entry fee is $28.00 per person for first event, $10.00 per person for each additional event if entered by May 31. Entry fee includes athlete T-shirt, passes to SportFest and the Opening Ceremonies and a copy of the Nebraska Sports Council Yearbook.

The project is set to take 10 days to two weeks, and is dependent of course on the weather. Should the project get under way as scheduled, leagues and other tennis activity at the High School tennis complex will be suspended for about two weeks.

• FTA Membership of $10 for adult, $4 for Junior, of $20 for family.

Fremont finished with 38 points. Omaha Marian won the meet with 60, and Lincoln Southeast was second with 47.

Fremont High’s Jessica Spalding placed second at No. 1 singles, and Erin Eairleywine was ninth for FHS at No. 2 singles. Fremont’s Megan Robertson and Jessye Johnson finished fourth at No. 1 doubles, while Sydney Robertson and Carly Gross were seventh at No. 2 doubles.

Some of the key players had commitments to other activities. However, coach Heidi Moran said the team performed well. “Lincoln Southwest is in the top three in the state,” she said. “So with our absences it made for a tough day but the Tigers played hard.”

The Jr. Varsity posted a 12-0 loss.

Fremont won four singles matches with strong play from Jessica Spalding, Jessye Johnson, Erin Eairleywine, and Amy Ahrens. Two doubles matches were won by Jessye Johnson/Erin Eairleywine and Sydney Robertson/Carly Gross.

The Junior Varsity showed some strong play as well, posting a 9-0 win over Columbus.

Claiming wins for the Fremont Tigers were Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson at No. 1 doubles, Lindsey Strong and Bailey Stewart at No 2 doubles, and Sydney Robertson at No. 2 singles.

Coach Heidi Moran said, “Our continued lack of consistency is preventing us from finishing as strong as we could or should be at this point in the season. We need to be self-correcting and play fundamentally sound. Yes Marian is the best in the state but we’re better than what we’ve shown in the last week.”

It was a tough dual for Fremont, with Kearney winning all but one varsity match. Jessica Spalding was the lone winner for FHS, defeating Candace Green 8-3 at No. 2 singles. FHS coach, Heidi Moran, said that Spalding played the best tennis of the season in the win. “She was so focused that we called her ‘laser eyes.’” Moran said. “After she and Megan Robertson dropped their doubles match at the beginning of the day, she was not going to have that happen again. She showed us that she could bring her game to the next level today.”

Moran added, “I also felt that some of the singles scores we ended up with did not reflect the games we saw today – the girls made some excellent improvement today.”
