This is a good chance for some of our Fremont Junior players to gain some match experience, meet some new tennis friends, and play some exciting tennis.

The project is set to take 10 days to two weeks, and is dependent of course on the weather. Should the project get under way as scheduled, leagues and other tennis activity at the High School tennis complex will be suspended for about two weeks.

Those who played on the team in 2009 do not need to attend the tryouts, but must play in the qualifying tournament to be held April 9-11 at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, NE.

This Ladder System will allow you to register, challenge other players who are registered for this particular ladder, find some new opponents to play, check your ranking, and have more tennis fun.

Invite your friends who might be interested to register as well. The more we get registered, the more opportunity we will have to challenge and play.

Over the course of the weekend you will receive 10+ hours of professional advice from Ian Westermann and David Groemping. This is a comprehensive clinic which will focus on all areas of both technique and strategy. Included will be personal video analysis by Ian for both technique and strategy. Also included is a mental toughness workshop provided by mental coach David Groemping.

Be prepared to work hard in both cooperative and competitive drills as you receive personal instruction to help improve your tennis game. If your game has already improved thanks to the Essential Tennis Podcast just imagine how much benefit you’ll receive by working with Ian and David in person!

You’ll need to hurry. Remember, the deadline is Sunday, Dec. 13.

There is a Junior Holiday Open as well, scheduled for Dec. 27-31. You may find more information at Junior Holiday Tournament.

The tournament will be held December 12, 2009 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Registration deadline is Friday Dec. 4. Players will play a minimum of three matches and will be limited to one singles event.

WHAT IS QUICKSTART? The QuickStart Tennis format is about fitting tennis to kids based on age and physical size. By shortening the court dimensions, equipment (rackets and balls), net height and scoring system coupled with a play component, kids will develop better technical and tactical skills. When each of these elements is used together, kids will achieve early success and stay in the game. To give kids the confidence and ability to cover the entire court, score points and build an all-court game, the court is shorter and narrower for both age groups. The QuickStart Tennis format divides kids into two ages groups: the first is 8-and-under; the second is 10-and-under. We will also offer a 12 and under division. By putting kids with similar physical and social skills together, they have more fun while learning and developing skills.

Wayne Bryan, father of the Bryan brothers, will be the keynote speaker. He will be hosting various tennis clinics throughout the day. Curt Smith and Jane Hines will be the 2009 inductees to the NTA Hall of Fame.

Plan to attend. Rumors are that the Fremont Tennis Association will be receiving two awards!

Beacon Hills is located at 5353 No. 27th St, connected to the Country Inn & Suites on the 27th St. exit, which is about two miles south of I-80.

For those unfamiliar with the program, QuickStart Tennis is an exciting new play format for learning tennis, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. For more information, go to QuickStart.

Summer Junior Tennis players – some future US Open champions?

Come and join us. The class includes a warm-up stretching period, followed by tennis drills designed to keep the cardio rate at a good work out level. Then we end with a cool-down period. All this is done with a background of lively music to keep us bouncing.

It is a great way to get a good work-out in a fun environment. Anyone can join in and benefit from both the cardio drills and the tennis practice. You can improve your heart and your game!

The class is free to all YMCA members. Come and join us for a fun, beneficial hour. You’ll be glad you did!

This tournament includes divisions for

The entry deadline is July 17. All Fremont Area Junior players should plan to play. This is a great tournament for fun, experience, to see some of your tennis friends, and to make some new tennis friends.

This is one of the best Summer tournaments in Nebraska. All Fremont Area players should plan to participate. The entry deadline is Sunday, July 5.

The resurfacing project will cost just over $47,000. The other half of the cost will come from Fremont Public Schools and the Fremont Tennis Association. Over time, outdoor courts naturally erode and deteriorate requiring periodic resurfacing.

The courts have held up very well over the last 17 years. Eight of the 12 courts were resurfaced 14 years ago, and the other four are newer and have never been resurfaced. It is suggested that these types of courts be resurfaced every 10 to 12 years, so ours are due.

The FHS complex gets a lot of use during the outdoor season with the Fremont Tennis Association, Parks and Recreation, Fremont Family YMCA, Fremont Public Schools, Trinity Lutheran, Midland Lutheran College and the general public all using the courts.

Fremont is fortunate to have such a great tennis complex available, one of the largest public tennis facilities in the Midwest that does not charge players a fee for court time.

At last report, the resurfacing project is tentatively scheduled for sometime in July. Watch for updates on the project here.
