Fremont High Girls pick up two wins at State Tennis Meet

Fremont High Girls TennisThe Girls State Tennis Tournament was held Thursday and Fremont High picked up two wins.

Erin Eairleywine won at very tight match at No. 2 singles in the first round over No. 12 seed Gretchen Pille of Papillion-LaVista South, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(7-5). She then lost to Saki Aota of Lincoln Southwest 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.

Catherine Booth and Bailey Stewart were easy winners in their No. 2 doubles first round match over Samantha Kasun and Jaclyn Rentschler of Omaha North, 6-0, 6-0. Then lost their second round match to 2nd seeded Regina Beller and Kara Schuele of Omaha Marian 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 1 singles, Fremont’s Amy Ahrens lost 7-5, 6-0 to Eve Dimagno of Lincoln High in the opening round. Sydney Robertson and Lindsay Strong lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles to Danielle Kostal and Kari Nelson of Lincoln Southeast in the first round.

Omaha Marian won the State meet with 36 points. Fremont ended the tournament with 4 points.

Columbus downs Fremont High in girls tennis, while Fremont is victorious over Lincoln NE

Fremont High Girls TennisThe Fremont girls tennis team lost to Columbus Tuesday, April 19, at the Fremont Family YMCA by a score of 6-3.

The Columbus Discoverers won four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches. Erin Eairleywine and Bailey Stewart picked up the singles wins for the Tigers. Eairleywine defeated Kelcey Robak 8-6 at No. 4 singles, and Stewart was an 8-5 winner over Brianna Ritter at No. 6 singles. Cathrine Booth and Carly Gross had the only win in doubles play, 8-4 over Kelcey Robak and Staci Barton at No. 2 doubles.

On Monday, April 18, the Fremont Tigers had a close win over Lincoln Northeast 5-4. The dual was tied 4-4 when Sydney Robertson and Lindsay Strong battled back at No. 1 doubles for a 9-8 (8-6) victory to seal the win.

Robertson was also a winner at No. 1 singles, winning 8-2 over Latalie Serel. Amy Ahrens and Erin Eairleywine also picked up wins in singles play. Ahrens won 8-2 over McKenzie Ferguson at No. 3 singles, and Eairleywine was an 8-2 winner over Jadeyn Palmer-Hahn at No. 4 singles. Ahrens and Eairleywine teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Fremont Jr. Varsity team defeated Lincoln Northeast 8-1 and remains undefeated this season.

Fremont Girls finish in 3-way tie at triangular

Fremont High Girls TennisThe Fremont Girls Tennis team finished in a 3-way tie with Lincoln Southeast and Omaha Burke on Monday, April 4, at Burke High School.

Fremont had four wins in doubles play and won two singles matches for six points. LSE won four singles matches and two doubles matches while Burke won three doubles and three singles matches.

Catherine Booth and Carly Gross had wins of 8-6 and 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and Gabby George and captain Bayley Becher won 8-5 and 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. Captain Sydney Robertson and Lindsay Strong lost both of their matches at No. 1 doubles.

Amy Ahrens defeated Burke’s Jess Ahrens 8-2 at No. 1 singles for the Tigers and lost to LSE’s Danielle Kostal 8-3.
Captain Erin Eairleywine also split her matches at No. 2 singles. She defeated Burke’s Caroline Song 8-5 and lost to Megan Freese of LSE 8-4.

Bailey Stewart dropped both of her matches at No. 3 singles.

Prescott, and Zoucha/Escamilla win initial state matches

Fremont Tigers Boys TennisFremont High School’s No. 1 doubles team of Brady Zoucha and Torrey Escamilla and No. 2 singles player Luke Prescott won their opening tennis matches at the Class A state tennis meet Thursday.

Zoucha and Escamilla, the 10th seed, defeated Nicholas VanHaute and Joshua Gardner of Omaha Bryan 6-4, 6-0 in their first match, and then lost to the seventh seeded team of Eric Busskohl and Cody Schantz of Norfolk 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Prescott opened his state competition with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Trevor Flemming of Lincoln Northeast. He then lost to Michael Knudsen of Millar North 6-2, 6-2.

Luke Samuelson played at No. 1 singles for the Tigers. He lost to Seb Gardejford of Grand Island 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round.

At No. 2 doubles Kiefer Wilson and Mac Richards dropped their first-round match 6-3, 6-2 to Joseph Beeson and Andrew Fehr of Millard West.

Escamilla, Zoucha lead Fremont High Tennis Team in dual

Fremont Tigers Boys TennisThe Fremont High boys tennis team played well on Monday, posting a 6-3 win in a dual with Columbus. Fremont won five of six singles matches to lead the way.

Both Torrey Escamilla and Brady Zoucha were winners twice on the day. Escamilla won 8-3 in No. 2 singles, and Zoucha won 8-3 at No. 3 singles. Escamilla and Zoucha also teamed up to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Other singles winners for FHS were Luke Prescott (8-5), Mac Richards (8-5) and Kiefer Wilson (8-4) at No. 3-6 singles action respectively. [Read more →]

Papillion-La Vista South wins dual over Fremont High Tennis Team

Fremont Tigers Boys TennisPapillion-La Vista South came to Fremont on Tuesday for a duel with the Fremont High boys tennis team, handing Fremont a 6-3 loss at the FHS courts.

Luke Samuelson and Brady Zoucha won their singles matches and the doubles team of Torrey Escamilla and Luke Prescott also had a win at No. 3 doubles.

Samuelson defeated Matt Lynch 8-5 at No. 3 singles while Zoucha was an 8-4 winner over Jordan Jewell at No. 4 singles.

Escamilla and Prescott defeated Jewell and Lynch at No. 3 doubles 8-4.

The Tigers will travel to Woods Park in Lincoln on Friday for the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament.
