For Fremont, Jessica Spalding won over Hannah Higgins 8-3 at No. 1 singles. Jessye Johnson defeated Lindsey Keller 8-6 at No. 3 singles, and Sydney Robertson had a shutout, 8-0 over Merdith Cain at No. 4, while Amy Ahrens had an easy win over Jessica Fasnacht, 8-1.

In doubles play, Megan Robertson and Jessye Johnson defeated Rosie Neibel and Lindsey Keller 8-1 at No. 1, Sydney Robertson and Carly Gross beat Merdith Cain and Sandra Koenig 8-3 at No. 2, and Amy Ahrens and Lindsey Strong were 8-5 winners over Hannah Higgins and Jessica Fasnacht at No. 3.

The Fremont Tigers next play in the Heartland Athletic Conference meet at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln.

Megan Robertson and Jessye Johnson won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles for Fremont, while Amy Ahrens had an 8-4 win at No. 6 singles.

Fremont finished with 38 points. Omaha Marian won the meet with 60, and Lincoln Southeast was second with 47.

Fremont High’s Jessica Spalding placed second at No. 1 singles, and Erin Eairleywine was ninth for FHS at No. 2 singles. Fremont’s Megan Robertson and Jessye Johnson finished fourth at No. 1 doubles, while Sydney Robertson and Carly Gross were seventh at No. 2 doubles.

Some of the key players had commitments to other activities. However, coach Heidi Moran said the team performed well. “Lincoln Southwest is in the top three in the state,” she said. “So with our absences it made for a tough day but the Tigers played hard.”

The Jr. Varsity posted a 12-0 loss.

Claiming wins for the Fremont Tigers were Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson at No. 1 doubles, Lindsey Strong and Bailey Stewart at No 2 doubles, and Sydney Robertson at No. 2 singles.

Coach Heidi Moran said, “Our continued lack of consistency is preventing us from finishing as strong as we could or should be at this point in the season. We need to be self-correcting and play fundamentally sound. Yes Marian is the best in the state but we’re better than what we’ve shown in the last week.”

It was a tough dual for Fremont, with Kearney winning all but one varsity match. Jessica Spalding was the lone winner for FHS, defeating Candace Green 8-3 at No. 2 singles. FHS coach, Heidi Moran, said that Spalding played the best tennis of the season in the win. “She was so focused that we called her ‘laser eyes.’” Moran said. “After she and Megan Robertson dropped their doubles match at the beginning of the day, she was not going to have that happen again. She showed us that she could bring her game to the next level today.”

Moran added, “I also felt that some of the singles scores we ended up with did not reflect the games we saw today – the girls made some excellent improvement today.”

The Tigers won all six singles matches and two of three doubles matches.

Jessye Johnson won 8-1 at No. 1 singles, Jessica Spalding won 8-0 at No. 2 singles, and Megan Robertson won 8-3 at No. 3 singles. Other singles wins were posted by Sydney Robertson at No. 4 (8-2), Erin Eairleywine at No. 5 (8-4), and Carly Gross at No. 6 (8-0).

In doubles action, Spalding and Megan Robertson won 8-2 at No. 1, and Johnson and Sydney Robertson won 8-3 at No. 3. The Junior Varsity also posted a win, going 13-3 over Blair.

Jessye Johnson ended the day with a 1-1 record at No. 1 singles for the Fremont Tigers. Catherine Booth also wen 1-1 at No. 3 singles.

In doubles action, Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson went 1-1 at No. 1, as did Lindsey Strong and Bailey Stewart at No. 3 doubles.

Sydney Robertson ended 0-2 at No. 2 singles, and Erin Eairleywine and Carly Gross went 0-2 at No. 2 doubles. The losses by Gross and Eairleywine were close, with their 1st match going 9-8(3) and the 2nd ending up 8-6.

Strong and Stewart’s loss was also close, going to a tiebreak, 9-8(1).

Five singles players won their matches, including Jessica Spalding at No. 1, Megan Robertson at No. 2, Jessye Johnson at No. 3, Sydney Robertson at No. 4, and Carly Gross at No. 6.

The doubles matches were all close, yet ended up on the winning side for Fremont. Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Jessye Johnson and Sydney Robertson won 8-3 at No. 2, and Erin Eairleywine and Lindsey Strong had an 8-6 victory at No. 3.

Fremont’s JV team lost a close one, 5-4. Lindsey Strong, Amy Ahrens, Rachel Samuelson, and Morgan Beighley picked up wins for the Tigers JV team.

The Tigers are again in action Monday in a triangular with Omaha Burke and Lincoln Southeast in Fremont.

Coach Heidi Moran had stated that this match would set the climate for th team. However, the Tigers were playing without senior Jessye Johnson who is 3rd on the ladder, which kept the Tigers from competing as strong as they had hoped.

Winning for the Tigers were Megan Robertson in singles, who also teamed up with Jessica Spalding to win in doubles.

The Junior Varsity also posted four wins, which shows some of the strength coming up in the future for the Fremont Girls.

Jessica Spalding shut out Liz Paulsion 8-0 at No. 1 singles, and Megan Robertson followed up with an 8-1 win over Quyen Nguyen at No. 2 singles.

Other Fremont singles winners were Sydney Robertson at No. 3, Erin Eairleywine at No. 4, Catherine Booth at No. 5, and Lindsey Strong at No. 6.

Spalding and Robertson teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Katilyn Studnicka and Tara Scott 8-2. Sydney Robertson and Carly Gorss went 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Lincoln North Star’s only win came in a close match in No. 2 doubles where Eairleywine and Booth fell 8-6 to Donna Pham and Elyse Kohl.

The Junior Varsity also did well with a 5-0 sweep. Fremont winners were Gabby George, Bailey Stewart, Bayley Becher in singles, with Strong/George and Stewart/Becher winning at doubles.

Juniors Brady Zoucha and Alex Hamilton won their first match at No. 1 Doubles. The first set was close and went to a tie-break which they won 7-4. The 2nd set went much better for Brady and Alex and they closed out the match 7-6(4), 6-2. They lost their 2nd match 1-6, 1-6.

Senior George Hartmann and sophomore Torrey Escamilla won their first match easily at 6-0, 6-1, then were defeated 1-6, 2-5.

At No. 1 doubles, Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson were seeded 10. They were state champions last year at No. 2 doubles, and compiled a 25-8 record this year at No. 1 doubles. In their first round at state, they defeated Kailey Bottum and Deanna Jordan of Omaha Northwest 6-1, 6-1. They followed that with a 2nd round victory over 7th seeded Ashley Meyers and Sammi Licari of Columbus, 6-4, 6-2. They then lost the 3rd round match to the No. 2 seeded team of Breanna Keller and Lauran Keller of Omaha Westside, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 2 doubles, Erica Dickmeyer and Jessye Johnson won their first round match 6-1, 6-0 over Crystal Schafer and Veronica Martinez of Omaha South, followed by a win over Abby Langpaul and Emily Rech of Bellevue East, 6-3, 6-0. They were then defeated in the 3rd round by 4th seeded Madeline Brown and Dayna Cohen of Millard West, 6-4, 6-0.

At No. 1 singles, Mallory Iseminger of FHS lost 6-0, 6-0 to 9th seeded Alexandria Tran of Omaha Central.

Sydney Robertson, playing at No. 2 singles, lost 6-1, 6-3 to Courtney Buchberger of Grand Island.

The Fremont Lady Tigers played hard this season. They had some good wins, and some tough losses. Congratulations on a hard-fought year, and thanks for representing the Fremont area in tennis.

Lincoln Southwest won the overall team title with 28 points. Lincoln East was second with 23, and Lincoln Southeast was 3rd with 20 points. Fremont had 12 points for 4th place.

Fremont’s No. 2 doubles team of Erica Dickmeyer and Jessye Johnson finished second, beating teams from Lincoln Southeast and East before losing to Lincoln Southwest.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson finished 2-1 and placed 3rd, defeating Lincoln North Star and Lincoln Southwest before losing to Southeast.

At No. 2 singles, Sydney Robertson was 4th. She earned a first-round win over North Star before losing to Southeast and East.

In No. 1 singles play, Mallory Iseminger lost to players from Southeast and Lincoln High.

The Tigers will compete Thursday in the Class A meet at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha.

Jessica Spalding, Megan Robertson and Erica Dickmeyer, competing at No. 1, 2, and 3 singles respectively, all blanked their opponents with 8-0 wins. Fremont High allowed Lincoln High only 11 games all day.
