Erin Eairleywine won at very tight match at No. 2 singles in the first round over No. 12 seed Gretchen Pille of Papillion-LaVista South, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(7-5). She then lost to Saki Aota of Lincoln Southwest 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.

Catherine Booth and Bailey Stewart were easy winners in their No. 2 doubles first round match over Samantha Kasun and Jaclyn Rentschler of Omaha North, 6-0, 6-0. Then lost their second round match to 2nd seeded Regina Beller and Kara Schuele of Omaha Marian 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 1 singles, Fremont’s Amy Ahrens lost 7-5, 6-0 to Eve Dimagno of Lincoln High in the opening round. Sydney Robertson and Lindsay Strong lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles to Danielle Kostal and Kari Nelson of Lincoln Southeast in the first round.

Omaha Marian won the State meet with 36 points. Fremont ended the tournament with 4 points.

The Columbus Discoverers won four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches. Erin Eairleywine and Bailey Stewart picked up the singles wins for the Tigers. Eairleywine defeated Kelcey Robak 8-6 at No. 4 singles, and Stewart was an 8-5 winner over Brianna Ritter at No. 6 singles. Cathrine Booth and Carly Gross had the only win in doubles play, 8-4 over Kelcey Robak and Staci Barton at No. 2 doubles.

On Monday, April 18, the Fremont Tigers had a close win over Lincoln Northeast 5-4. The dual was tied 4-4 when Sydney Robertson and Lindsay Strong battled back at No. 1 doubles for a 9-8 (8-6) victory to seal the win.

Robertson was also a winner at No. 1 singles, winning 8-2 over Latalie Serel. Amy Ahrens and Erin Eairleywine also picked up wins in singles play. Ahrens won 8-2 over McKenzie Ferguson at No. 3 singles, and Eairleywine was an 8-2 winner over Jadeyn Palmer-Hahn at No. 4 singles. Ahrens and Eairleywine teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Fremont Jr. Varsity team defeated Lincoln Northeast 8-1 and remains undefeated this season.

Fremont had four wins in doubles play and won two singles matches for six points. LSE won four singles matches and two doubles matches while Burke won three doubles and three singles matches.

Catherine Booth and Carly Gross had wins of 8-6 and 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and Gabby George and captain Bayley Becher won 8-5 and 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. Captain Sydney Robertson and Lindsay Strong lost both of their matches at No. 1 doubles.

Amy Ahrens defeated Burke’s Jess Ahrens 8-2 at No. 1 singles for the Tigers and lost to LSE’s Danielle Kostal 8-3.
Captain Erin Eairleywine also split her matches at No. 2 singles. She defeated Burke’s Caroline Song 8-5 and lost to Megan Freese of LSE 8-4.

Bailey Stewart dropped both of her matches at No. 3 singles.

Zoucha and Escamilla, the 10th seed, defeated Nicholas VanHaute and Joshua Gardner of Omaha Bryan 6-4, 6-0 in their first match, and then lost to the seventh seeded team of Eric Busskohl and Cody Schantz of Norfolk 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Prescott opened his state competition with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Trevor Flemming of Lincoln Northeast. He then lost to Michael Knudsen of Millar North 6-2, 6-2.

Luke Samuelson played at No. 1 singles for the Tigers. He lost to Seb Gardejford of Grand Island 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round.

At No. 2 doubles Kiefer Wilson and Mac Richards dropped their first-round match 6-3, 6-2 to Joseph Beeson and Andrew Fehr of Millard West.

Both Torrey Escamilla and Brady Zoucha were winners twice on the day. Escamilla won 8-3 in No. 2 singles, and Zoucha won 8-3 at No. 3 singles. Escamilla and Zoucha also teamed up to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Other singles winners for FHS were Luke Prescott (8-5), Mac Richards (8-5) and Kiefer Wilson (8-4) at No. 3-6 singles action respectively.

Luke Samuelson and Brady Zoucha started off with a loss to Matt Schwindt and Brady Hopwood of Lincoln Northeast, but then won their next three matches. They defeated Bobby Barns and Cory Queen of Elkhorn High 8-2 to win the consolation title.

Luke Prescott picked up the other win for the Tigers on the day. He defeated Jordan Stoler of Omaha Central 8-5 to reach the consolation semifinals where he lost to Tyler Marick of Millard South 8-5.

Torrey Escamilla dropped his first two matches of the day at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Mac Richards and Kiefer Wilson also ended 0-2.

Fremont scored 10 points and finsihed tied for 12th in the standings. Omaha Creighton Prep won the meet with 52 points.

The team returns to action at 4 Thursday afternoon when they host Elkhorn Mt. Michael in a dual.

The Fremont High boys tennis team tied for eighth place at their own invitational Saturday at the Fremont High courts.

Lincoln Southeast won the tournament with 60 points. Norfolk was second with 43 points. Fremont ended with a 17 points.

Fremont’s Taylor Escamilla was 1-3 at No. 1 singles. His lone win was a 8-1 decision over Ian Turner of Papillion-La Vista.

The Tigers’ No. 1 doubles team of Luke Samuelson and Brady Zoucha also ended 1-3 on the day. Their win came over Cole Gruber and Dylan Lusero of PLV by the score of 8-4.

Mac Richards was 0-4 at No. 2 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Kiefer Wilson and Luke Prescott also finished 0-4.

Junior Torrey Escamilla got the only singles win for FHS against Burke at No. 1 singles. He defeated Matt Hrdlicka 8-5. Fremont swept doubles play. Brady Zoucha and Luke Samuelson won 8-4, Mac Richards and Kiefer Wilson won 8-5 and Robbie Giovanazze and Nick Niday won 8-3.

Samuelson and Zoucha had the best showing for Fremont against Prep winning three games from Niko Piperos and Ethan Gart.

Luke Prescott advanced to the final of No. 2 singles where he fell 8-0 to place second with a 3-1 record.

The No. 1 doubles team of Brady Zoucha and Luke Samuelson overcame an early loss to place fifth after defeating Central 8-6 and end with a 3-1 record.

Torrey Escamilla finished 2-2 at No. 1 singles. He fell to Colin Buckley of Central 8-6 in the fifth-place match.

Mac Richards and Kiefer Wilson ended the day 0-4 at No. 2 doubles.

The Tigers return to action Tuesday in a dual at Elkhorn South.

Fremont finished with 38 points. Omaha Marian won the meet with 60, and Lincoln Southeast was second with 47.

Fremont High’s Jessica Spalding placed second at No. 1 singles, and Erin Eairleywine was ninth for FHS at No. 2 singles. Fremont’s Megan Robertson and Jessye Johnson finished fourth at No. 1 doubles, while Sydney Robertson and Carly Gross were seventh at No. 2 doubles.

Some of the key players had commitments to other activities. However, coach Heidi Moran said the team performed well. “Lincoln Southwest is in the top three in the state,” she said. “So with our absences it made for a tough day but the Tigers played hard.”

The Jr. Varsity posted a 12-0 loss.

Fremont won four singles matches with strong play from Jessica Spalding, Jessye Johnson, Erin Eairleywine, and Amy Ahrens. Two doubles matches were won by Jessye Johnson/Erin Eairleywine and Sydney Robertson/Carly Gross.

The Junior Varsity showed some strong play as well, posting a 9-0 win over Columbus.

Claiming wins for the Fremont Tigers were Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson at No. 1 doubles, Lindsey Strong and Bailey Stewart at No 2 doubles, and Sydney Robertson at No. 2 singles.

Coach Heidi Moran said, “Our continued lack of consistency is preventing us from finishing as strong as we could or should be at this point in the season. We need to be self-correcting and play fundamentally sound. Yes Marian is the best in the state but we’re better than what we’ve shown in the last week.”

It was a tough dual for Fremont, with Kearney winning all but one varsity match. Jessica Spalding was the lone winner for FHS, defeating Candace Green 8-3 at No. 2 singles. FHS coach, Heidi Moran, said that Spalding played the best tennis of the season in the win. “She was so focused that we called her ‘laser eyes.’” Moran said. “After she and Megan Robertson dropped their doubles match at the beginning of the day, she was not going to have that happen again. She showed us that she could bring her game to the next level today.”

Moran added, “I also felt that some of the singles scores we ended up with did not reflect the games we saw today – the girls made some excellent improvement today.”

The Tigers won all six singles matches and two of three doubles matches.

Jessye Johnson won 8-1 at No. 1 singles, Jessica Spalding won 8-0 at No. 2 singles, and Megan Robertson won 8-3 at No. 3 singles. Other singles wins were posted by Sydney Robertson at No. 4 (8-2), Erin Eairleywine at No. 5 (8-4), and Carly Gross at No. 6 (8-0).

In doubles action, Spalding and Megan Robertson won 8-2 at No. 1, and Johnson and Sydney Robertson won 8-3 at No. 3. The Junior Varsity also posted a win, going 13-3 over Blair.

Jessye Johnson ended the day with a 1-1 record at No. 1 singles for the Fremont Tigers. Catherine Booth also wen 1-1 at No. 3 singles.

In doubles action, Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson went 1-1 at No. 1, as did Lindsey Strong and Bailey Stewart at No. 3 doubles.

Sydney Robertson ended 0-2 at No. 2 singles, and Erin Eairleywine and Carly Gross went 0-2 at No. 2 doubles. The losses by Gross and Eairleywine were close, with their 1st match going 9-8(3) and the 2nd ending up 8-6.

Strong and Stewart’s loss was also close, going to a tiebreak, 9-8(1).

Five singles players won their matches, including Jessica Spalding at No. 1, Megan Robertson at No. 2, Jessye Johnson at No. 3, Sydney Robertson at No. 4, and Carly Gross at No. 6.

The doubles matches were all close, yet ended up on the winning side for Fremont. Jessica Spalding and Megan Robertson won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Jessye Johnson and Sydney Robertson won 8-3 at No. 2, and Erin Eairleywine and Lindsey Strong had an 8-6 victory at No. 3.

Fremont’s JV team lost a close one, 5-4. Lindsey Strong, Amy Ahrens, Rachel Samuelson, and Morgan Beighley picked up wins for the Tigers JV team.

The Tigers are again in action Monday in a triangular with Omaha Burke and Lincoln Southeast in Fremont.
